The Challenge

Arlington County needed a reliable electrical infrastructure to power its new recycling equipment, including the Lippmann 4800e Portable Impactor Plant and LR516r Dual NRHPower Screener. These machines play a vital role in crushing, screening, stacking, and recycling materials to support the county’s sustainability goals. The project required upgrading the site’s electrical capacity to handle the increased power demands efficiently.

Our Solution

L&M Electric and Plumbing delivered a turnkey electrical upgrade, ensuring the seamless installation of power systems for the new recycling equipment. Our scope included:

Custom Electrical Design & Installation – Designed and installed a 1200A 480V 3-phase service panel and an 800A disconnect switch, replacing the existing CT cabinet and meter base.

Service Upgrade Coordination – Worked closely with Dominion Energy and Arlington County to upgrade the service from 400A to 1200A, including trenching and installing 850 linear feet of PVC piping and wiring.

Optimized Implementation – Adapted the design to use multiple smaller disconnect switches instead of a single 1200A Main Distribution Panel, accelerating project completion.

Seamless Execution – Mounted and installed the CT cabinet and meter base with Dominion Energy, ensuring all connections were tested and powered for immediate operation.

Results & Impact

On-Time & On-Budget Completion – The project was completed ahead of schedule, ensuring Arlington’s recycling operations launched without delays.

Cost-Effective Power Solutions – Our design modifications optimized costs while meeting the county’s growing energy needs.

Compliance & Risk Management – All work adhered to NEC standards and building codes, with a proactive approach to risk mitigation and client communication.

Conclusion

L&M Electric and Plumbing played a key role in powering Arlington County’s latest sustainability initiative. Our expertise in high-voltage electrical projects, strategic coordination with utility providers, and commitment to efficiency ensured a successful outcome.
